Babalwe Makawula and Khopotso Makin established the NEW LIFE CENTRE in Berea in 2005 in an attempt to take some girls off the streets of Hillbrow where they had been forced into prostitution - it is estimated that there are 5000 teenage prostitutes in the area. Their intention is to rehabilitate them in a home with some "family" environment that can give them a sense of purpose. Girls are sent to schools from where 11 have graduated. One has got a job as a secretary. There are 35 girls in the home that is situated in the Rowntree Building in Tudhope Avenue in Berea.
